Our Digital Sustainability Statement

Last updated: July 7, 2025

At Vital Brands Inc., we recognize that digital sustainability is an essential part of our broader commitment to sustainability and responsible business practices. Every website we operate carries a digital carbon footprint, from the energy required to host and maintain the site to the content we create and share online.

We are actively working to reduce the environmental impact of our digital presence while continuing to provide our customers, partners, and visitors with a seamless, high-quality user experience.

Our Approach to Digital Sustainability

We have conducted audits across our websites to better understand and minimize their environmental impact. Our strategy focuses on creating more sustainable, accessible, and efficient online experiences through the following initiatives:

  • Green Hosting: We have moved to eco-friendly hosting providers whose data centers are powered by renewable energy sources such as wind, solar, or hydroelectric power.
  • Energy-Efficient Media: We optimize images by using formats like SVG and WebP that reduce energy consumption without sacrificing quality.
  • Dark Mode Options: We offer a theme switcher on our websites that allows visitors to choose between:
    • Dark Mode – which reduces screen energy consumption,
    • Light Mode – a traditional viewing option, and
    • Default – which follows your device’s system settings.
  • Video Optimization: We have added play/pause controls to all video content and, where feasible, are replacing videos with static imagery, animations, or illustrations to reduce energy use.
  • Sustainable Design Training: Our teams—including designers, developers, and product managers—receive ongoing training in sustainable web design to embed eco-conscious decision-making into every project.
  • Lightweight Pages: We aim to keep each webpage under 1.5 megabytes (well below the global average of 2.4 MB) to reduce load times, improve accessibility, and minimize energy usage.

How Sustainable Is Our Website?

In addition to applying sustainable design principles, our websites meet Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) Version 2.1 Level AA and undergo regular testing using internationally recognized tools to measure digital carbon emissions.

By combining sustainability with accessibility and user-friendly design, we aim to ensure that visitors don’t waste time—or energy—navigating inefficient web pages.

What We’re Working On

We continually review and enhance our websites to further improve sustainability, accessibility, and usability. Current areas of focus include:

  • Reducing reliance on autoplay videos, which consume more energy.
  • Improving SEO performance to help users find relevant content faster, reducing time and energy spent on searches.
  • Expanding dark mode adoption and other user-controlled energy-saving features.

Join Us in Digital Sustainability

We invite you to be part of our journey towards digital sustainability. Even small choices—such as using our websites in dark mode—can help lower energy consumption on your own devices while contributing to a more sustainable digital ecosystem.
